Saturn Vue 2002 t and shaking feeling right front wheel when turning right..?

Hi I have a 2002 Saturn Vue, AWD 3 liters-that since yesterday has a t noise and a shaking when I turn ot veer to the right, it alsmost feels like the wheel itself..I brought to a garage weho told me that both axls need changing and would be at a cost of about $1000.00-1500.00 canadian dollars, as they state they cannot get used or re machined, but how do I know that this is true, and or a reasonable charge. I am a woman and want to make sure that I am not being taken advantage of..can anyone diagnose and tell me if price range is fair? Thanks in advance!
