Need to know what to look for in a new bike?

You don't need suspension if you are riding on roads or tracks. If you do a lot of the energy you put into the pedals will be lost in the suspension. It will make moving along a lot harder. If you really must have suspension get one that you can lock out. Disk brakes (hydraulic or cable) will stop you very quickly, but add to the weight and cost.
